Spring is just around the corner, and the anticipation of a new season can be exciting. There are some things that can be done to help jump-start the feelings of joy for the fresh and warmer months ahead.
Spring cleaning is not a new concept. However, by starting early, it may lend itself to some joyful moments while waiting for the chill of winter to say goodbye.
There are many things one can do to spring forward their home, including cleaning, organizing and sprucing things up. Short of remodeling, there are many of inexpensive ways to change the look of one’s living space.
Putting up new and brighter curtains, even if just in the kitchen and bathroom areas, will add a splash of fresh color creating the feelings of spring. Incorporating new hand and bath towels along with the curtains will changes the room’s look without spending money on a fresh paint job.
Don’t forget to replace the existing shower curtain with one that announces the arrival of the warmer months, and don’t overlook the kitchen table. By adding an attractive tablecloth, the whole room can look cheerfully different.
Replacing lamp shades in rooms will add a touch of different for less money than purchasing a new lamp. Painting dressers and bookcases can add color to a room as well as replacing worn area rugs and older throw pillows.
Knobs on dressers and closet doors can easily be replaced and will make an inexpensive difference. Placing small stain glass ornaments in windows will add color on those sunny days.
The winter months are also a great time to organize as there may be more time on hand to do so. Getting rid of old catalogs and unwanted magazines lying around will go a long way toward decluttering a room. A mail organizer can clear off a table or desk while still keeping mail readily available.
Start spring cleaning off well by dusting ceiling fans, especially if they look as though there’s a furry cat resting on top of the blades. Keep in mind, nothing says it’s brighter outside than clean windows, especially if birds have left their “calling cards” on the glass. A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle is inexpensive and should do the trick, keeping glass sparkling.
Closets can be a catch-all area, creating lots of clutter. Try adding different ways to store items by installing shelving and incorporating extra spring rods and a small dresser or bins.
Drawer dividers create a wonderful way to separate and store small items in an easy findable way. Don’t forget to add fragrance to rooms, with the many different scents to choose from, your nose will cheerfully notice.
Cleaning and organizing doesn’t have to be a boring chore. Putting on some favorite music can help create energy and a more positive outlook on changing the look and vibe of living spaces. When all is said and done, the changes just may have one feeling that spring is in the air.
