Murphy – On Saturday morning, local law enforcement officers, children from low-income families and Walmart will come together once again for the annual Shop with a Cop program.
Each year, cops and kids are paired up to go Christmas shopping together. There is no cost to the child or their families, and it’s a wonderful way to bring everyone together in a positive environment.
Once at Walmart, the children buy their wanted Christmas items, with many choosing to purchase gifts for family members or friends. Their officer or deputy partner assists them through the process of retrieving the items from the store’s shelves to check out.
Shop with a Cop began in 2004 with a special holiday grant from Walmart. The program continues to grow, with support and donations from generous businesses, organizations and individuals.
