Running 5K to help children in foster care

Body

Murphy – The Cherokee County Department of Social Services held the foster care fundraiser Miles That Matter 5K at Konehete Veterans Park on the morning of April 26.

In 2022, the Walk Me Home 5K raised $33,609 to support local foster children on their journey to permanency – covering needs such as childcare, school supplies, medical expenses, clothing, food, extracurricular activities and transportation. This event has since evolved into Miles That Matter, a new 5K dedicated to:

  • raising awareness of foster care;
  • recruiting foster and pre-adoptive families;
  • raising essential funds for foster children, foster families and support programs

All funds raised are put into an account for the foster children of Cherokee County. DSS believes every child in foster care has the right to normalcy and, with your help, local children will have opportunities they may not have otherwise.
