Murphy – This Independence Day, the Rotary Club of Murphy invites the community to a unique and meaningful celebration at Konehete Park. The event will feature a Bucket Brigade Relay Race and raise awareness for the club’s international water project, Nora’s Wells.

The event will be held Thursday, July 4, at Konehete Park. The booth will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

.

The highlight of the event will be a Bucket Brigade Relay Race, which begins at 11:30 a.m. and featuring four firefighters each from the Murphy and Peachtree volunteer fire departments. Spectators can cheer on these local heroes as they race to fill a 50-gallon barrel with water, showcasing their skills and speed.

Throughout the day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Rotary Club’s booth and experience a simulation of water carrying. This hands-on activity allows participants to carry a water bucket for a short distance, giving them a taste of the daily reality for many people in water-scarce regions around the world.

The event is part of the Rotary Club of Murphy’s efforts to promote its “Nora’s Wells” project. This initiative, dedicated to the memory of Nora Starks, aims to provide clean, accessible water to communities in underdeveloped regions such as Haiti and Nigeria. The club raises funds to construct new wells and repair existing ones, dramatically improving the quality of life for thousands of people.

“Water is a basic necessity that many of us take for granted,” said Jacqueline Egli, president of the Rotary Club of Murphy for 2024-25. “Through Nora’s Wells and events like this, we hope to raise awareness about global water issues and inspire our community to make a difference.”

The Rotary Club of Murphy invites everyone to join in this fun and meaningful Fourth of July celebration.

Come enjoy the excitement of the Bucket Brigade Relay Race at 11:30 a.m., participate in the water-carrying simulation anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and learn more about how to support the Nora’s Wells project.
