School out early Friday

“Out of an abundance of caution,” Nantahala School dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Friday due to a strong chemical smell, according to a release from the Macon County school.

Officials said all precautions were taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. They apologized for any inconvenience.

“We strive to always do what’s in the best interest of our students and staff, and unfortunately today that meant dismissing early,” the release says.

Talent show at Chevelles

Chevelles bar and grill, 66 Hiwassee St. downtown, is planning a talent show big bash from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday.

The stage is waiting for you at the at the no-judgment zone event night. The host is international disc jockey DJ Makavelidre.

$7 car wash to fight fires

The Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department is holding a car wash fundraiser from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the 409 Building, 225 Valley River Ave.

Cost is $7. Proceeds will be split between needed firefighter equipment and the building fund. Additional donations happily accepted.
