Chamber has new director

Sherry Raines, executive director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, for the last six years, has stepped down to pursue other career opportunities.

“When I began considering this transition in my life, my biggest concern was leaving the chamber and you, the members, in the best hands possible,” Raines said in a release. “I believe through the diligence of the chamber’s board of directors we are doing exactly that.”

That’s because local resident Victoria Ivie has been hired as the new executive director, effective Monday, “bringing her wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position,” said Raines, who is also past-president of the Rotary Club of Murphy.

“Victoria is deeply involved in the community and its values. She understands the importance of supporting, and nurturing, our local businesses and community organizations.”

Ivie recently received positive recognition for her “Little Blooms” project through Heritage Partners of Cherokee County, which wants to enhance and expand Konehete Veterans Park with more for children.

Decorate windows

It’s time for the Andrews Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Window Contest. This year’s theme is “Whoville (or The Grinch),” which is the parade theme.

Local businesses are asked to decorate front windows for the season, then email director@andrewschamber.com to let folks know yours is ready. The deadline to decorate is Friday, Nov. 17, so the town will look festive for Christmas on Main come Saturday, Nov. 25.

Judging will take place Dec. 4-7, so be sure to have your display all lit up on those evenings. In addition, the Town of Andrews Christmas Parade is planned to start on Main Street just after dark Saturday, Dec. 9.
