Trail of Tears chapter meet

The N.C. Trail of Tears Chapter will hold its summer meeting at 2 p.m.

Sunday at the Cherokee County Indian Community Club, 300 Airport Road.

After a catered lasagna dinner, the featured speaker will be Casey Cooper, CEO of the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority and Remember the Removal bike rider alumnus.

The nearby new EBCI Clinic is being built adjacent to where Cherokees from the area traveled over the designated National Trail of Tears Historic on the forced removal to Fort Butler in Murphy in June 1838.

Hillbilly Hams host Field Day

Members of the Hillbilly Hams ARC will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, at 1650 N.C. 141, behind Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.

Since 1933, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to highlight the science and skill of amateur radio.

On Saturday, operators will start the event at 2 p.m. and run through to 4:59 p.m. Sunday. All local fire and emergency services personnel, along with local elected officials, are invited to join from 2-5 p.m. Saturday to ask questions, see the operational set up and have a chance to get on the air.

Home buying seminar set

The Gremli real estate group will present a Home Buying Seminar from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 30, at 315 Family Church Road.

Dinner will be served. “There will be no pressure, no pitch, just honest advice,” according to Taylor Gremli.

Other speakers include Gina Sanders of Mortgage Financial Group, Steven Aft of State Farm Insurance, Dr. Sue Lynn Ledford of Four Square Community Action and Dr. Jeana Conley of Educate 4 Success.
