Fundraiser and raffle set

Andrews Public Library will hold its annual fundraiser and raffle to “Support Your Local Library” at 4:30 p.m.  Friday at A&J Adventure and More Auction, located at 13950 Highway 19 in White’s Plaza.

This year’s fundraiser features barbecue plates for $10, starting at 6 p.m. and will feature a wide variety of items donated by individuals and local businesses.

Any unsold items will be available on Saturday at the annual Christmas on Main event in downtown Andrews.

Christmas on Main returns

Downtown Andrews is ready for the 11th annual Christmas On Main from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.

With 163 vendors registered the event is a chance to purchase locally made goods for gifts and will also feature opening ceremonies from 10-10:30 a.m., the dedication of the Christmas tree, a car show on Chestnut Street along with live music from local musicians as well as local church choirs performing throughout the day as well as Nathan the Magician roving the downtown festival.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be available for pictures from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Valleytown Cultural Arts Center.

There will be a free shuttle from the Town Center Shopping Center to the event with return shuttles scheduled to depart from Locust Street.

Walkathon fundraiser

The Mayor’s Rising Stars, will have walkathon to raise money for Haywood Christian Ministry which has been doing hurricane relief work in Haywood County.

The walkathon is from noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the riverwalk loop by the baseball/softball fields. There is a GoFundMe set up, gofund.me/71a14605, where all donations go directly to Haywood Christian Ministry. Cash donations or checks, made out to “Haywood Christian Ministry” with the memo line “Hurricane relief,” will also be accepted on the day of the walkathon.

Thankful for free dinner

A free dinner will be offered on Thanksgiving Day to anyone and everyone who would like to share a meal.

The dinner for the general public will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Main Street USA, 85 Hiwassee St. downtown. Public servants will receive a meal from 10-11 a.m.

“Let’s Share & Care” is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Murphy and Reach of Cherokee & Graham Counties. Donations and volunteers are needed.

Rep. Edwards in Murphy

U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards’ mobile office, the Carolina Cruiser, will be parked outside the old Murphy Police Department at 93 Peachtree St. on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

If you need help with federal agencies, Congressman Edwards’ team will be on-site to answer your questions.

Kia holding food drive

Lifetime Kia of Murphy is holding a food drive through Saturday, Nov. 30. All items donated will go to the Hiwassee Dam Senior Center  – food pantry.

Items needed are healthy-nonperishable items, canned fruit and vegetables, soups, canned beans, oatmeal and any non-perishable snacks. No home canned goods.

All donations will help serve the whole community.
