BRASSTOWN
Congressional primary debate
The only 11th Congressional District debate being planned before the primary election Tuesday, March 5, will be held near the Cherokee and Clay county line.
The event is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Brasstown Community Center, 255 Settawig
Road. Incumbent U.S.
Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C. of Hendersonville) will face off with challenger Christian Reagan of Hayesville, who won’t have to travel far from home for the debate.
Both candidates have committed to the debate. Edwards said last week this would be the only debate before Super Tuesday.
The winner of the Republican primary will face off in the Tuesday, Nov. 5, general election against N.C. Rep. Caleb Rudow (D-Buncombe), the only Democrat filed to run for Congress in the district, which represents Cherokee and surrounding counties.
MURPHY
Local store up for sale
After eight years, Glitz & Glamour on Tennessee Street downtown has decided to close after January and sell the store.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciate all of our customers. Our business started in less than 200 square feet in a salon and grew to a large storefront,” Jody, the store owner, shared on Facebook.
“This has been a hard decision because I have poured my heart and sale into this business, but at the end of the day my family comes first,” she added, referring to a family illness.
