Raper still board chair
Cherokee County Board of Education Chair Shannon Raper will keep the gavel through 2024,
School board member Steve Coleman was picked to be vice chair, replacing James Ellis. Coleman was nominated to be chair but declined, then accepted a nomination to be vice chair.
All votes were unanimous at the monthly school board meeting Thursday.
ANDREWS
Town meets Thursdays
The Andrews Board of Aldermen has switched its meeting days from Tuesdays to Thursdays.
Beginning in January, the board will hold workshops at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, with regular meetings moving to 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.
The board approved the change at its Dec. 12 regular meeting – the last Tuesday meeting before the change takes effect.
CORRECTION
The article with the headline, “Griggses lose tax appeal after board recusals,” on page 7A in the Dec. 13 edition of the Cherokee Scout contained a factual error about a lawsuit.
Cherokee County Tax Assessor Teresa Ricks sought a no-contact order against a former employee and accused that person of cyberstalking. A judge dismissed the request for a no-contact order, and the cyberstalking allegation is a criminal case on hold because of insufficient evidence. The Scout regrets the error.
