The 2024 primary election in North Carolina is set for Super Tuesday – March 5.
Polls in Cherokee County will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. All voters will need to present a valid form of identification before placing a ballot. Early voting continues through 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cherokee County Board of Elections, 40 Peachtree St., Suite B, in downtown Murphy.
The Democratic, Republican and Libertarian parties all have primary elections. Independent voters can chose which primary they want to vote in.
Cherokee County seats up for grabs this year include two chairs on the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners and three on the Cherokee County Board of Education. All of the incumbents are seeking re-election.
Two well-known residents – former Andrews alderman Gary James and retired Martins Creek Elementary/Middle School principal Paul Wilson – are trying to obtain enough signatures to get on the Tuesday, Nov. 5, general election ballot as independents for the school board. They must each gather 900 local signatures by Tuesday in order to qualify for the general election.

- Brasstown – Martins Creek Community Center, 4605 Martins Creek Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
- Culberson – Culberson Community Center, 4348 N.C. 60, Murphy, NC 28906.
- Grape Creek – Grape Creek Community Center, 5425 Joe Brown Highway, Murphy, NC 28906.
- Hanging Dog – Hanging Dog Volunteer Fire Department, 3839 Hanging Dog Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
