Andrews – Fall festival lovers prepare to descend en masse to the third annual Oktoberfest, which drew thousands of people to the Valley last year, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Oktoberfest is a Bavarian celebration of change marked by enthusiastic shopping, eating and drinking beverages with or without alcohol.
The Andrews Chamber of Commerce sponsors this event. Executive Director Nola Cooper said to expect beer, beer and more beer.
However, keep reading, wine lovers.
“Just like the traditional Oktoberfest in Germany, both beer and wine will be available. Open containers are allowed on Main Street in designated areas. Please drink responsibly,” Cooper said.
Speaking of alcohol consumption, FernCrest Winery Tasting Room, Hoppy Trout Brewing Co. and Snowbird Mountains Brewery will join forces to present this year’s Beer & Wine Garden.
The three bands scheduled to performed are Betty Vaughn & Friends, Conner Lilley & The Hollerin’ Frogs and the reunited Twelve-Gauge Persuaders.
There will be chairs set up near the stage. Picnic tables will be near enough to hear the music while eating what Cooper called “the best food of your life.”
Last year’s festival attracted about 4,000 people. One of its highlights, Cooper said, were the contests, especially the beard and mustache and “Don’t spill a drop” contests.
Kids can check out the free Kids Zone on Main Street, which includes all kinds of fun activities. A corn hole tournament with a cash prize promises fun for the sober and non-sober alike.
It’s time to take that traditional Lederhosen or Dirndl out of the closet and put it on. Regardless of the choice of attire, a photo booth is available to save good memories.
