Andrews – Two local men were arrested and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon during a fight over a dog.
Jerry Lee Blankenship, 45, and Kyle Fergus Orr, 28, are neighbors on Main Street. They were arrested Saturday and were being held without bail at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy pending a bail hearing. Their court date is Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Andrews Police Chief Caleb Stiles said there are conflicting versions of what happened, with Blankenship and some of his neighbors saying one thing, and Orr and other neighbors saying something else.
What is known is that Blankenship was shot in his arm twice with a pellet gun, while Orr suffered a laceration on his arm after being struck with a pipe. It occurred as a result over an argument about a dog.
“We don’t know what happened,” Stiles said.
Both men were taken to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Peachtree for treatment and then to the county jail, where they remained as of Monday.
