  • Fishing Derby: The Mountain Country Rod & Gun Club, along with the Cherokee County Recreation Department, sponsored a Fourth of July Fishing Derby at Konehete Park in Murphy on July 4, with 37 kids participating. Hadalie Murphy (with her two trophies) won for Most Fish Caught – 10 – as well as the smallest fish at 4½ inches. Eliana Echerd won for the largest fish caught at 10¾ inches. With them is Mary Ann Hoesch of the club.
