Pedestrian Bridge will be revitalized
Murphy – Two projects started over the weekend that officials said will enhance the town.
The iconic Charters of Freedom monuments, symbols of the nation’s values and principles, are embarking on a new journey. These life-size replicas of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, Constitution and
Bill of Rights are being moved from next to Exit Realty to a new, permanent location at Konehete Veterans Park.
This move serves to complement the existing U.S. Marine Corps Memorial in the park and create a powerful tribute to the ideals that our veterans courageously defended, according to a release from the town. The park, a place of reflection and unity, is a natural fit for these historic monuments that attract people of all ages, including school-aged residents who are learning about American history and government.
A forthcoming educational rededication ceremony, which will include monument donor Vance Patterson, will be held in the future. In addition, the Veterans Memorial in downtown will remain in its current location, with plans to improve the town square.
Murphy is also undertaking a revitalization project on the pedestrian bridge near the tennis and pickle ball courts. Starting Monday, crews were at work pressure-washing the bridge, enhancing its appearance and longevity, the release says.
To facilitate this work, the pedestrian bridge will be temporarily closed to foot traffic while the revitalization process
takes place. Town officials say they appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation.
