Man facing child sex charges

Body

Andrews – Cherokee County Sheriff Dustin Smith has announced the arrest of Logan Michael Massey, 22, formerly of Andrews, on three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

The charges stem from his alleged possession of material depicting minors in sexually explicit situations.

.

The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Snapchat, which reported that Massey had uploaded suspected child sexual abuse material. The ICAC detective with sheriff’s office confirmed that the images met the criteria for second and third-degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor under North Carolina law. The investigation linked the upload activity to an IP address associated with Massey’s residence.

On Aug. 3, 2023, a search warrant was executed at Massey’s home, resulting in the seizure of electronic devices, including an iPhone, iPad and laptop. Massey was interviewed by detectives, and forensic analysis conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation identified multiple files on the devices containing child sexual abuse material.

Based on this evidence, Massey was indicted on Sept. 9, 2024, by a grand jury. Massey turned himself into the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy on March 17 and was released under a $100,000.00 unsecured bond that was set by a N.C. Magistrate.

“This arrest reflects our commitment to protecting children and ensuring that those who exploit them are brought to justice,” Smith said.
