Local hotel feeds firefighters

Andrews – The Quality Inn, just off of U.S. 19/74, sponsored a meal provided by Frankie’s Dog House for everyone fighting the Collett Ridge Fire on Friday.

Enjoying their first day of rest and relaxation since joining the effort on Oct. 27, the firefighting crew was appreciative of the community’s efforts through donations of snacks, meals and items like eye drops.

Manager A.P. Patel said the Quality Inn, where many of the crews are staying while in town, wanted to give something back to the men and women bravely fighting the blaze.

Though based out of Asheville, the crew includes members from several Western states – including Idaho, Oregon and Washington State – with varied seasons of experience in fighting wild-land fires. They are tentatively scheduled to stay in Andrews for two more weeks, depending on fire mitigation and conditions.
