Meet local fire heroes

The public is invited to a family fun community event out from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Parker’s Burgers & Sweets, 5465 U.S. 64 W.

Come meet the guys and gals from several local fire departments, and enjoy some food, treats and door prizes.

Bring the kids out to meet a firefighter, check out the fire trucks and take some photos with a hometown hero. Watch firefighters play Jenga using a Jaws of Life tool. Kids will be able to play under the stream of water from a deck gun.

There will also be an opportunity to join a department as a volunteer and help in a capacity that works for you. Organizers hope this becomes an annual event.

Give feedback on the N.C. Highway Patrol

The N.C. Highway Patrol maintains national law enforcement accreditation through the Commission on Law Enforcement for Accreditation.

As a part of this process, an opportunity is provided to citizens of North Carolina for public feedback via the CALEA Portal. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns.

The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement and foster a “pursuit of professional excellence,” according to a release.
