Welch earns Stein award
Attorney General Josh Stein last week honored six residents of western North Carolina with the Attorney General’s Dogwood Award. These awards are given out annually to recognize people who are working to improve the health, safety and well-being of their fellow North Carolinians.
Recipients include District Attorney Ashley Welch.
“Drug traffickers have flooded western North Carolina with illicit, deadly drugs,” Stein said in a release. “Welch has made it clear that she will not tolerate these drugs on our streets and is fighting to hold accountable the criminals who traffic poison.”
Welch represents Prosecutorial District 43, which includes Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.

Patrol out in full force
The N.C. Highway Patrol will be on the roadways this holiday season looking to stop dangerous driving before potentially life-changing collisions take place. Troopers joins roadway users across North Carolina in hopes of a safe and happy time for giving thanks with family and friends.
According to the American Automobile Association, more than 49 million people will travel by automobile across our nation. In anticipation for the increased number of vehicles that will travel in North Carolina, troopers will be out in full force with the goal of reporting zero fatalities.
The Highway Patrol once again participated in the Thanksgiving “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which is organized by the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
During the campaign, troopers will join with statewide law enforcement officers to enforce restraint laws across our state.
Motorists can assist the SHP by contacting *HP (47) if they observe dangerous driving.
