Marble – A Cherokee County inmate was captured after he escaped from a work crew at the sheriff’s shooting range in Marble on Thursday morning. His capture was reported at 1:53 p.m. by Cherokee County Emergency Services.

Robert Keith Revis Jr., 50, of Andrews, was being held in lieu of numerous charges including being a habitual felon and bond forfeiture. Earlier charges included possession of methamphetamine, shoplifting, driving without a license, misdemeanor larceny, and other similar offenses dating as far back as 2009.

He was being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center on four charges with total bail of $8,500.

Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee tribal police, the N.C. Highway Patrol and the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections were on scene Thursday morning in an area ranging from the Cherokee County landfill, Fairview Road, N.C. 141 and Airport Road.

At about 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Revis was spotted on the railroad tracks in the Marble area. After a brief foot chase, Revis was taken into custody without incident. Revis was charged with Felony Escape Local Jail and Escape By Hired Prisoner, and given a No Bond for both offenses.

Revis has an initial court date of May 15, 2025, for these charges.

Pending this investigation, this is all the information that can be released at this time.

Revis is a white male, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 155 pounds. He was last seen at 9:28 a.m. near 9554 U.S. 19. At the time, he was wearing tan inmate clothing, but officials say he may have changed clothes.

This is the second escape from Cherokee County jail custody since October, when a federal prison being held for a string of bank robberies across the state scaled a fence but was captured a short time later.

That inmate, Kelvin Wayne Simmons, 48, of Concord, remains in custody at the Cherokee County Detention Facility, facing federal bank robbery charges plus new charges of felony escape and resisting a public officer. His bail for the escape attempt was set at $100,000 but he was being held without bail on the federal charges.
