Inaugural Trunk or Treat sweet fun for everyone

Murphy – The parking lot at Lakeside Plaza on U.S. 64 West was filled with spookiness Saturday evening, when droves of parents and their little "monsters" came out to see decorated Jeeps and fill their buckets with yummy treats.

The Murphy Mudslingers, Blairsville Jeepers and North Georgia Jeepers all teamed up to put on a show not only for the kids but for their parents as well. This was the group's collective efforts to put together a Trunk or Treat event to allow children to come out and trick or treat safely.

"This was the very first time we've done this,” said Helen Malinowski from the Murphy Mudslingers.

The vehicles from each of the different clubs were fully decorated, and each offered a variety of candy and treats. Everyone came out in costume to welcome all those who stopped by.

The Ranger Volunteer Fire Department was also there with two of their trucks.

Everyone from a tiny Snow White to a bigger Capt. Jack Sparrow showed up for the festivities and to dine from a menu that consisted of hot dogs, soda, candy and even more candy.

A machete wielding cracked doll was there along with a tiny napping Superman and a real dog that appeared to have been swallowed up by a shark. (No worries, it was just a costume.)

There was no lack of creativity putting costumes together for this event. There was even a tiny firefighter walking around looking for treats; he was certainly not to scale with full-size trucks on the scene, but he appeared to be enjoying the moment.

The different Jeep groups intend to do this again and hope for an even bigger crowd next year.
