Murphy – Shiny wheels, flawless paint jobs and open hoods adorned the parking lot of Calvary Chapel Church
for their Calvary Cars auto gathering Saturday.
Calvary Cars is a ministry geared toward reaching the community by hosting car shows and opportunities to meet and greet, fellowship, plant seeds and grow in the Lord. Jaylyn Abling of Ranger, who hosts the car show, also provided morning treats for those stopping by Saturday.
Cars turned heads as vehicle owners rolled in for some auto admiration, coffee and donuts. Among the vehicles participating in the show were a 1971 Cutlass, 1987 Crown Victoria LTD and 2010 Camaro, complete with a Marvel wrap.
Abling plans to do more shows and assist others with their cars. He owns a 2001 BMW E46 Wagon.
“It has an upgraded engine and big brakes,” he said with a huge smile.
Justin Holley of Ranger had his white 335i BMW in the show.
“I love it,” he said of the gathering. “I love car shows and seeing people come out.”
Brent Key owns a 2010 Camaro Rally Sport, which he covered in a red Marvel auto wrap. He’s proud of his car and enjoys opening the trunk, which displays a couple of 3D superhero heads. His favorite is Iron Man.
“My dad was in the car business for about 50 years, so I’ve always been a car guy,” he said. But it was his son who turned him on to Marvel and its cast of superheroes.
Key is also president of the North Georgia Camaro and Firebird Club.
“Last week, I was in a Clayton parking lot when two guys stopped and blocked traffic just to take pictures of the car,” he said.
James Abt had a 1987 black Crown Victoria LTD in the show.
“It’s gonna be a nice ride today, but it could be a little bit warmer,” he said. His dream car would be a 1966 GTO Convertible in royal blue.
After the car show, the drivers traveled along Joe Brown Highway as a group, then stopped at Smoky Mountain BBQ for lunch. For details on Calvary Cars, call Abling at 828-557-9444.
