Fire department donation

Body

The Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department's annual dinner and awards celebration had a twist on the traditional Christmas gift exchange. Typically gifts are exchanged among the members; however, members decided this year to buy gifts for children ages 0-17. More than 100 gifts were purchased to be donated to victims of Hurricane Helene, along with supplies and fire equipment. On Dec. 21, Grape Creek fire officials delivered the load to Elk Mills-Poga Fire Department in Butler, Tenn., which was destroyed by the hurricane. Supplies and equipment were dropped off at the makeshift fire department, and the Christmas gifts were taken to a local church for distribution. From left are Chief Alan Andrews and deputy chief Tony Blodgett. (Capt. Zach Bennett is not pictured). Andrews thanks Ogreeta Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and the Grape Creek Community Club for their donations. To volunteer, call 828-361-3979.
