Ebenezer – Veterans were shown honor and great respect on Nov. 21 at Ebenezer Baptist Church for a special tribute dinner organized by the Grape Creek Extension & Community Association.
The annual event honored those who have served in each branch of the U.S. armed forces, recognizing the sacrifice and commitment each has made to the nation as well as their family members.
An invocation was given by the Rev. Mitchell Shields (retired Army), who referenced Psalm 91, also known as the “soldier’s psalm.” His message was of trusting God as a protector.
Carl Maxwell, a chaplain with the American Legion, spoke about the significance of family support as well as youth education in America. Maxwell also talked about ongoing efforts and the importance of better housing for veterans in the far west.
Maxwell also brought light to the successes of the annual Welcome Home Veterans – A Tribute to All Who Served event, which has had more than 30,000 attendees over the last six years. Local military veteran John Bandy was also recognized and celebrated as an inspiration to everyone through difficult health challenges.
