Hiwassee Dam – A Bell Hill Road resident was arrested after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy responding to a disturbance call on Aug. 5.
Henry Longino, 73, was booked on a charge of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm on Aug. 5 and posted bond a day later. Deputies were dispatched to a Bell Hill Road residence following a report of a disturbance.
“Longino called in and stated that someone needed to get here because a male has come again and he is not giving the male a third time,” according to a release.
Deputies contacted Longino and advised him that they were en route to speak with him face to face and to stand by at the residence.
“The first deputy to arrive activated her warning lights and went to the front door announcing herself,” according to the release.
The deputy knocked on the door and announced her presence. While walking around a corner of the garage, she was confronted by Longino lying in the grass and pointing a firearm at her.
“The deputy announced herself and sought cover, commanding the subject to drop the gun,” the release says.
“After several commands, the subject, (who was) later identified as Mr. Longino, complied.”
Longino was taken into custody and booked. He was released after posting $10,000 bond.
