Murphy – A 99th local resident, who was in their early 60s, died from COVID-19 last week, one of 27 new positive test results for the coronavirus reported by the Cherokee County Health Department from Nov. 9 through Monday.
Of those patients, 11 are inmates linked to the ongoing outbreak at the Cherokee County Detention Center. Overall, 19 of the cases experienced symptoms, seven did not know the source of transmission and none were hospitalized.
Since the pandemic started through Monday, the health department has conducted 21,433 tests, 16,720 which were negative, Of the 4,700 positive tests, 4,569 have been released, 99 are deceased and 32 are active.
To help keep those numbers down, Health Director David Badger said boosters for all three vaccines, as well as child vaccinations, have been approved. For details, call 837-7486.
“We are experiencing very low demand for pediatric COVID vaccinations,” he said. “Hopefully, we will see that demand increase as people become more comfortable with their safety.”
