County cooking up some fun, sweet scares for holiday

A scary fun time is in store for local children of appropriate ages this Halloween. Several events were held last weekend, and here’s what’s coming up next, in chronological order.

Shepherd Trunk of Treat

The church’s annual trunk or treat event is set for 5 p.m. today at 68 Fairfax Drive in Murphy. Organizers say they gave our a ton of candy last year, and they plan to give out even more this time. All families are invited to the free event.

Halloween at the Marina

During the fifth annual event, residents are invited to trick or treat from 5:30-8:30 p.m. today and Thursday at Nottely Marina, 86 Doucette Circle in Blairsville, Ga. The event is free, but parking is limited.

Haunted House Peachtree

Come on down for the second week of the haunting, which wraps up from 6:30-9 p.m. today and Thursday at 1046 N.C. 141. Admission is cash only – $8 for adults, $5 for ages 10 and under.

A Murphy Haunting

The downtown extravaganza takes place from 4-7 p.m. Thursday on the sidewalks in downtown Murphy. Businesses and individuals from all over the area will

be joining Halloween forces on the square to hand out more candy than ever, according to the event’s organizers. There is no admission charge, just lots of good, small-town fun.

Peachtree Fire & Rescue

Come out and show off your costumes from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at 115 Upper Peachtree Road for trick or tufting at the fire station. There will be candy, juice and free hot dogs for everyone.

Methodist Trunk or Treat

Murphy First United Methodist Church, 73 Valley River Ave., will be set up for trunk or treat at 5 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot.

Grape Creek Trunk or Treat

Candy, cars and community are what this event’s all about at 5 p.m. Thursday at Grape Creek Baptist Church, 5489 Joe Brown Highway. There will be Halloween fun with fire trucks.

Calvary Trunk or Treat

Calvary Chapel, 866 Joe Brown Highway in Murphy, will host the church’s annual Trunk or Treat celebration from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. You’re invited to a free meal from The Ark and My Brother’s Keeper, to see cool cars, to dress up and to pass out candy.

Hanging Dog Trunk or Treat

Hanging Dog General Store, 2345 Hanging Dog Road, is hosting a holiday event from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Organizers goal is to create a safe, fun place to trick or treat. You’re invited to come on down, park and give out candy.

Halloween at the Fairgrounds

The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, 1311 Music Hall Road in Hiawassee, Ga., hosts trick or treating fun from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free. Bring your little ghosts and goblins to show off their costumes and get lots of sweet treats from local businesses and individuals.
