Brasstown – Matt’s Ministry is partnering with the Brasstown Community Center to create a Community Food Pantry on Thursday.

There is no sign-up or income requirement, just drive up to the new outdoor pavilion, and volunteers will hand out bags of food as vehicles pass through.

In the past, the Brasstown Community Center has worked with Matt’s Ministry, a faith-based group in Hayesville that provides community members with supplemental food. Maggie Butler, along with volunteers from the community center, spent several Tuesday mornings giving out food for school-age children.

However, because word of mouth advertising for this event wasn’t  successful, the program was terminated. But Butler is not giving up. She wants to do all she can to ensure that local families have adequate food.

If this first event is successful, Matt’s Ministry will continue to run the Community Food Pantry from 1-3 p.m. once a month at the Brasstown Community Center as follows: Thursday, Oct. 19; Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023; Thursday, Dec. 14; and Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024.

Everyone is urged to partake of this free program.
