There's no lack of fun and interesting things to do with the family this Halloween.
- The fun starts this weekend, when from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, when the Murphy Mud Slingers Jeep Club and Blairsville Georgia Jeepers will host a Trunk or Treat in the Lakeside Plaza parking lot on U.S. 64 West in Murphy. This free event is a great opportunity to dress up and bring the entire family out for candy. Be sure to check out the spooky Jeeps if you dare.
You don't have to own a Jeep to participate in the fun. For details, call Glen Maney at 828-557-7555.
- Ever been locked inside a museum at night? The Cherokee County Paranormal Society and Cherokee County Historical Museum invites everyone out for a "Night at the Museum" from 7:30 p.m. to midnight Friday, Oct. 29. This event is both spooky and informative. Be prepared for some haunted history that includes a downtown Murphy history tour as well as a museum history tour. There's also a paranormal investigation and midnight snack for anyone who eats at midnight.
For this kind of fun, you'll need a ticket, so be sure to contact Terrisa Carringer at 828-837-6792 for details. Part of the ticket sales will help the museum, and you'll receive a free T-shirt (while supplies last) proving you were brave enough to attend.
- Andrews is offering back-to-back events for the whole family Saturday, Oct. 30. Come out for a costume contest from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the "Welcome Home – A Tribute To All Who Serve" event at Western Carolina Regional Airport off U.S. 19/74. Winners will be announced at 1:45 p.m.
The costume contest will have three separate age groups – ages 3 and under, 4-8 and 9-12. For each age group, there will be a first, second and third prizes. Everyone is invited to come out for all the fun, including free food, drinks and trick or treating in various areas. Be sure to check out all the vintage vehicles including airplanes, cars and motorcycles.
- From 3-5 p.m. Oct. 30, the Andrews Chamber of Commerce is hosting Trunk or Treat downtown. This event provides a safe environment for kids to trick or treat and parents to see all the great costumes, while you decorate your trunk and pass out candy.
Last year, The Mystery Machine and Scooby-Doo stopped by. The Andrews Volunteer Fire Department will also be decorated and passing out candy.
- Shepherd of the Mountains and MountainView churches in Murphy will be hosting a Bible-themed Trunk or Treat event from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 30 at 68 Fairfax Drive, above Eller & Owens Furniture. Put on your costume and come out for lots of good spirits.
- Ranger Baptist Church at 151 Walker Road is also having a Trunk or Treat from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Check out the decorated trunks and "bag" some great treats. Don't forget to wear your costume.
- The popular Halloween neighborhood around Duke Street in Murphy will have limited access for vehicles during trick or treating Sunday, Oct. 31.
- For the biggest adult Halloween party in Murphy, stop by Chevelles Restaurant & Bar in downtown Murphy from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 31. Strangeoween offerings include live music by The High Strangeness, plus prizes for the best costume and Jack-o-lantern carving.
- And if you're looking to see a large outdoor Halloween display, check out the one on Joe Brown Highway, just before Grape Creek Baptist Church. It's available to view anytime.
