Ranger – The parking lot at the Comfort Grub restaurant on U.S. 64 West was peppered with classic automobiles on July 20.
The car show is held from 5-8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month year-round, and it’s open to anyone who wants to come out and enjoy all types of vehicles. There are no make, model or year restrictions, and you don’t have to be a member. Everything from Alfa Romeos, Bel Airs and Camaros to Ford Model T’s, pickups, Jeeps and Z/28s are all welcome.
The Midweek Motoring Auto Show was started by John Worden, who saw other auto clubs having shows and wanted to start one himself. The club has been meeting at the Comfort Grub for three years.
Debbie Jackson of Murphy came out to eat but stopped by to see the show first. Of all the vehicles, she said, “We love them. You can tell the difference when you look at the older cars, you can kind of figure out what they are, as opposed to the newer cars where you have no idea what they are.”
She doesn’t own any classic vehicles, but added, “I wish we did.”
Rick Texeira of Bellview loves older cars. He has been involved with classic and antique vehicles for 40 years.
“It’s a labor of love,” he said. He owns a ‘29 Model A Ford as well as a 1957 Chevy four-door. “That’s all I can afford,” he added, indicating it can be an expensive hobby. Texeira’s dream car would be a 1958 Chevy convertible.
When Chris Thompson brought out his red 1963 Chevy ll Nova Wagon, a couple of folks standing around could be heard “oohing” and “ahhing.” Thompson has been involved with the motor classics for 41 years. He also owns a Chevy ll convertible.
There were also newer model vehicles on display. Hoods were propped open and windows rolled down, giving everyone a full view of interiors and motor components. Tires were shiny, and owners were proud of all the time and effort that went into making their vehicles an object of appreciation.
The next car show will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17, in the parking lot of the Comfort Grub. Everyone is invited out to see the amazing workings of the automobile as well as to enjoy vehicle changes through the years. For details, visit Eastern Hot Rodders on Facebook.
