Murphy — The skies were grey and the rain was looming, but that didn’t keep people away from the monthly Friday Night Art Walk downtown. The Murphy Art Center’s Christmas in July kickoff only added to the fun.
Musical entertainment, food and wine were all part of the evening’s attractions. There were even a few folks dressed up in costume, like Justin Unger, who was representing Parson’s Pub in his bright green leprechaun attire.
New and seasoned vendors brought their crafts to the Art Walk, setting up tables and tents along the sidewalks. Some of the items included artwork, photography, greeting cards, pottery and woodworking items as well as unique clothing, jewelry, stained glass, flowers and steampunk hats.
Billie Cook, who is new to the Art Walk, had her digital fantasy cartoon based artwork out to sell for the first time. This was the first time she sold her artwork.
“It’s weird, really weird, cause now it’s not just my mom and dad saying it’s good, it’s more people, I have no idea who they are,” she said. “It’s fun, but weird. I’m enjoying it, though. I’m kinda out of my element now ‘cause I cut hair.”
Steve Riedel was set up inside the MAC in his elf hat, tie and suspenders in keeping with the Christmas in July theme. “I’m a happy elf,” he said while making Christmas ornaments and small stained-glass angels.
People appeared to be enjoying themselves and happy to be out and about. Several folks even brought their animal family members with them to the pet-friendly event.
The Art Walk is held on the first Friday of each month from 5-8 p.m. through December. Everyone is invited to the free monthly event. For details, call 360-3038 or visit @valleyriverartsguild on Facebook.
