Monica Harrison’s third-graders at Peachtree Elementary School learned about agriculture on May 10, planting a variety of plants on raised beds at the school. Rylie Sawmill, 10, Nevaeh Breazeale, 9, Jacob Howard, 9, and Zydisiah Allen, 8 (from left), were planting purple potatoes and cucumbers. Harrison said the exercise fulfills N.C. Essential Standards. “It is my hope that a love of learning and gardening will be ignited,” Harrison said. She wrote a grant to pay for some of the gardening supplies, with the remaining funding coming from local donations and Wayne’s Feed Store. “My plan is to extend the learning and involvement throughout the summer months.”
