23 new positive cases of COVID

Murphy – A total of 23 local residents tested positive for COVID-19 from Nov. 15 through Friday, according to the Cherokee County Health Department.

Of those patients, 20 experienced symptoms, nine did not know the source of transmission, none were hospitalized and all have been isolated. Three of them are inmates linked to the ongoing outbreak at the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Since the pandemic started through Friday, the health department has conducted 21,626 tests, 16,856 which were negative, Of the 4,723 positive tests, 4,596 have been released, 99 are deceased and 28 are active.

Health Director David Badger reminds local residents that boosters for all three vaccines, as well as vaccines for children, have been approved. For details, call 837-7486.

At the state level, 61 percent of residents have received at least one shot.
