Failure to yield right of way by a driver caused a two-vehicle accident between 2:45-3 p.m. June 17 in the westbound lane of U.S. 64 just east of the Hickory Oaks Plaza in Murphy. Extensive damage was done to both vehicles, causing injuries to both parties. One person was taken to the hospital, while one car left the roadway ending up in a muddy, water-filled ditch. Absorbent was used on the roadway to soak up the spilled liquids, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. Both vehicles left the scene on tow trucks.
