Williams
Late entries reported a woman had called 911 to report she was with a “very violent drunk” and was camping where police told her she could camp, but that she couldn’t go there without being in fear. The man followed her, after which the woman stated, “Oh my God,” followed by a loud bang and a man cussing at her.
The woman uttered profanities as well, followed by “banging over and over.”
“Can continue to hear someone grunting while continuing to hit the female, then heard the female say ‘God damn’ and then a voice say ‘die.’ ”
Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and attempted to stabilize her. She was taken to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Peachtree, where she died of her injuries.
During the initial investigation, deputies concluded from the injuries she sustained that she had been the victim of an assault. Further investigation led deputies to a suspect, Williams, who was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Williams is being held without bail at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy. He is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court today.
Sheriff Dustin Smith praised local agencies involved in the case.
“We appreciate the Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services, Cherokee County Dispatch and all others involved in helping to resolve this incident,” he said.
“The vital role they play, in conjunction with the relationship they have with our law enforcement personnel, were critical in solving this case.”
