Andrews – Bathtubs, a touch of French Tatouage and lots of pretty colors add to the existing beauty of the already charming town.
The Andrews Garden Club is responsible for some of the eye candy seen on the streets of downtown. A visible message to local residents, as well as visitors, that the area is loved and cared for.
Nancy Purser and Lynnie Anderson, members of the garden club, enjoy beautifying the area with color.
Purser owns Nancy’s Treasures, an antique shop downtown. She had two clawfoot bathtubs in stock, but they couldn’t be sold since the feet were missing. She thought of painting them as a project, a contribution to the garden club since she’s unable to attend their meetings.
Anderson mulled over how to decorate the tubs for a few days, then offered the idea of French Tatouage. She called it a process of layers on layers of transfer.
Working on the project together, the ladies began to turn the tubs with missing feet into works of art. Purser said Anderson even worked on the project in the rain, which somehow feels appropriate.
Mayor James Reid donated two additional bathtubs toward the beautification endeavor.
The four floral designed tubs were filled with dirt and colorful flowers from Hillside Nursery. The project was funded by the Andrews Garden Club.
The finished project was so stunning that the ladies would like to continue; however, they are out of bathtubs. Anderson and Purser are seeking donations so they can continue making Andrews look even lovelier with this particular project.
“Our addition of vintage claw foot tubs that are decorated and planted with flowers continues the theme of the beautification project in downtown Andrews. We’ve started with four tubs and plan to expand the project to 12 tubs, hopefully,” Anderson said.
Each of the bathtubs cost about $150 to fill with flowers, not including the dirt nor paint. As long as the tubs keep coming in, their project will continue.
The original mission of the Andrews Garden Club was to beautify the town and inspire others to take pride in accentuating its stunning assets. They continue that mission today. After years of planting and maintaining planters and flower beds throughout downtown, the town and local businesses have taken responsibility for many of the original club projects.
