Andrews – Walgreens is shuttering its Andrews store as part of a nationwide downsizing affecting around 1,200 locations around the nation.
The Andrews store closes permanently on Feb. 26, according to signs attached to the store’s front-door entrances.
The Murphy Walgreens so far does not appear to be caught up in the national restructuring.
The Andrews Walgreens, located at 286 Main St. in Andrews, was built in 1995 on 1.38 acres. The 10,771-square-foot store and real estate were sold for $900,000 in 2021 to 286 Main St., LLC, based in Astoria, NY. The Cherokee County Tax Assessor’s Office values the property at $2.17 million.
Walgreens’ departure from the Andrews market leaves Turner’s Family Pharmacy as the only drugstore in town.
The Walgreens closure is the second major loss of a corporate retail store in Cherokee County in the past two months. Murphy’s Big Lots store does not appear to be included among some of the Big Lots locations that will remain open following the sale of the parent company.
