Murphy – There was a full house at Buck Bald Brewing on the afternoon of Aug. 2, as folks arrived throughout the day to help the family of Cherokee County sheriff’s Transport Detention Officer Francisco Flattes, who was killed in the line of duty on June 30.
The fundraiser was organized by the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Cub-Appalachian Chapter. The club is comprised of law enforcement officers as well as U.S. military veterans. The heartfelt event offered raffles, a 50/50 drawing, live music, good beer and conversation.
Two memorial wreaths were displayed at the entrance of the establishment, ensuring no one forgets fallen officers like Flattes. Folks were generous on the raffles, with proceeds going to the officer’s family.
“We’re doing a benefit for Officer Flattes’ family. That’s what we do, being a military and law enforcement club, we reach out to our community and try and help those in need,” said Chris “Sig” Poston, first sergeant at arms with the Nam Knights.
“His family needs all the help they can get in this trying time. We’re going to do our part and raise some money. with 100% of the proceeds going to his family. Anything we can do to help our brothers in arms.”
Buck Bald Brewing and the Nam Knights also provided live music by Skelton Key and Bill Vespasian.
“It’s a great cause, and they do wonderful things,” Cori Blomberg of Murphy said, “so we’re here to support the brewery and the Nams for the cause of the family.”
“We heard there was a fundraiser for the fallen officer, so we wanted to come out and support it,” Larry Jent of Hayesville added.
