Andrews – The seventh annual Spring Fling is set to hit the streets of downtown from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
This year will see some changes with new Andrews Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shannan Kelly and events coordinator Alaina Trull at the helm.
“We’re moving some of the venues to include some of the other Main Street businesses, including Frank’s Dog House and Morning Fog, so people can roam downtown freely with more offerings in different locations,” Kelly said of this year’s changes.

One of those is moving the music stage to the gazebo at Hall Memorial Park. Local music acts Full Circle, Brother and Sugah & Thuh Cubes will be taking the gazebo stage throughout the day to entertain festival-goers.
As much as things change, they do remain the same. The Doxie Derby will still take place at noon in the field across from St. Andrew Lutheran Church of the Mountains along Main Street. And a variety of vendors will once again grace the town, offering sundry wares and items for sale.
New this year is a tribute to the dirt track and its particular style of race cars, with a show and parade at 11:30 a.m. Kelly said the chamber was also able to add a Color Run at 11 a.m. that will benefit the Andrews High School volleyball team’s scholarship fund.
Food trucks will be lined up along First Street in a fashion similar to Food Truck Fridays.
Trull said the chamber is offering more of the town to explore this year, while keeping the core of the festival along Main Street. There will also be a Kids Zone across from Salon El-Khouri along with demonstrations in the tent posted by Andrews United Methodist Church.
In addition, the United Methodist Men from Andrews United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center; look for signs at the bake sale table on Main Street. Price is $12 per plate for a Carolina Mountain Trout fillet, potatoes, the “best Carolina cole slaw in western North Carolina,” cornbread, tea and coffee.
Also that day, the Andrews Public Library is hosting a meet-and-greet book signing with author Laura Fotusky, who will have copies of her book Walking Together: From Trauma to Trust available. And Tony Bryant will be showcasing his collection of Native American artifacts from the area.
The Andrews Chamber of Commerce puts on the Spring Fling as an extension of Earth Day.
