Peachtree Once again, Murphy Rehab & Nursing Center has named a king and queen at the annual Valentine’s Day King & Queen Celebration, which was held on Feb. 14 and drew quite a crowd.
The dining room was the venue as staff, residents and family members became judges for deciding who won the grand prize, as well as the first and second runner-up titles.
The grand prize winners were Jimmy Rogers and Dorothy Graczyk, who received the coveted crown, tiara and cloak – as well as stuffed bears and, of course, bragging rights for a year.
The first runner-up spot went to Dee Maresca and Tommy Anderson, with the second runner-up going to Bruce Abernathy and Ruth Anderson.
“Our precious king was moved to tears, and our queen was giddy. She wore her tiara throughout the building,” assistant activities director Emily Fulford said with a smile, adding, “Dee Maresca was so pleased and surprised. She was shocked, but so thankful.”
The annual event is just one of the many different activities residents can participate in along with daily group, room activities and more. The organizer of the event was Amy Jones, the center’s activities director, with Fulford’s assistance.
The festivities didn’t forget the snacks, as cake, cupcakes, beverages and other treats were served. In addition, thanks to a large flower donation from Shannon Shipley, manager of Ingles in Andrews, each resident and staff member received a Valentine’s Day floral bouquet.
