Peachtree – Renewed Hope Ministries is rebuilding after a fire on March 7 destroyed a shop next to its thrift store on U.S. 64 East Alternate, near the intersection of Scottie Mountain Circle.
“There was a fire in our baling room that destroyed the bulk of our building and our baling machine,” the organization said on its Facebook page. “This area is where we receive, process, sort and bale clothing and other textiles for bulk shipment. This operation is a large part of our revenue stream, accounting for up to 25 percent of the total operating budget yearly.”
The operation also produces and processes the clothing sold in the thrift store which also generates revenue for the ministry.
“We are going to rebuild,” according to the organization’s statement. “We’ve been actively working to clear away all debris related to the fire. We have been searching directly and through other contacts for a replacement baler. We have replaced some items lost in the fire that are needed for our daily operations. We are prepared to move forward.”
Renewed Hope is asking for the public’s help in rebuilding.
“There are countless ways you can get involved and be a part of what the Lord is doing in and through the men sent to our ministry for discipleship and life change,” the organization said. “You can donate to our ministry by going to our website renewedhopemurphy.com. You can also go to our Facebook page and give there.”
The organization accepts donations through the mail or in person at its venue at 150 Penny Lane. Let them know if you can give your time and skillset to the rebuild.
“We need people, we need your help,” the organization said. “If you have construction skills in any trade, we could use your help in the rebuild. If you have materials or access to materials, you can help. We could also use volunteers to help us in the processing and hanging of clothing for sale in our thrift store.”
Since the organization isn’t bailing clothes for the time being, organizers are hoping to sell even more clothing in their store to plug the gap.
“This will help to offset some of the losses for this season,” according to the organization. “This means we need help keeping clothing on the racks. We are open to any suggestions and would love to have you involved in helping us during this time.
The organization is attempting to operate as close to normal as possible in both its store operation and all other revenue centers.
“We are passionate about serving the men that come into our program and serving our community through the thrift store,” according to the organization. “We want to keep the level of service at a high standard and continue to serve our residents free of charge. We are grateful for your willingness to come alongside and partner with us as we rebuild and move forward as God sees fit.”
