Ranger Volunteer Fire Department getting better at 50

Photos by Anngee Quinones-Belian/Staff Correspondent  SARa is a search and rescue canine brought by owner Shannon Vetter to the Ranger Volunteer Fire Department’s 50-year anniversary celebration Saturday. Also a part of the celebration was Life Force, a medical transport helicopter. Tours of the aircraft were available for anyone who was interested.

With some training, the Floyd and Morris families may one day operate their own fire department. Firefighters Jaimie and Wyatt Nowling were each presented with an Emergency Medical Services award as well as a certificate after helping a woman with a medical issue at Panther Top. The two Ranger firefighters were off duty at the time of the incident. “I’m shocked,” Jaimie said. “I was definitely not expecting it, but it was nice.” From left are Jim Pemberton, Col. Ranger Fire Chief Mike Taylor offered an opportunity for young children to assist with breaking out windows on a vehicle during an extrication demonstration. The event was held Saturday as part of the department’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
