CORRECTION
The article about one member of the Andrews Board of Aldermen challenging another alderman’s residency on page 3A in the July 30 edition of the Cherokee Scout contained an error. The photo of Andrews Aldermen James Mclean was incorrect, as it was actually Aldermen Ted Paul. Mclean’s correct photo is at right. The Scout regrets the error.

TVA hits new peak demand
The Tennessee Valley Authority met a new high peak demand for the summer of 2025 this week, according to a release from TVA.
On July 30, TVA reached a preliminary summer-to-date peak of 31,888 megawatts at a system average temperature of 93 degrees Fahrenheit – the highest demand so far this summer.
Also, the preliminary peak on July 29 was 31,563
MW at 95 degrees, just
shy of this summer’s earlier peak of 31,644 MW on July 17.
That’s three peaks in the month of July, all of which have already exceeded TVA’s 2024 summer peak of 31,096 MW, which was reached last August at a higher system temperature of 99 degrees. This demonstrates the continued growth in electricity demand across the Valley, with higher usage occurring even at lower temperatures.
However, these peaks are still well below the all-time summer peak of more than 33,500 MW in August 2007 and the all-time peaks of over 35,000 MW set in January 2025 and January 2024.
