Peachtree – “The Fab Five are busy ladies. They are involved in everything,” said Emily Fulford, activities assistant for Murphy Rehabilitation & Nursing.
She is referring to five of her memorable residents – Mary Frances Clayton, Renate Wocell, Dorothy Graczyk, Delores Maresca and Jackye Prine – who participate in local and facility events.
“Four of the five placed in the Silver Arts Senior Games this year’s competition,” Fulford added.
The Fab Five recently attended a Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce AfterHours event hosted by the rehab center. Max Horton, a radio personality with WCNG/WCVP in Murphy, attended as well and asked the women if they ever listened to his program.
They laughed and said they were too busy to listen to the radio. However, upon deeper discussion, they revealed that they
didn’t have radios in their rooms. Murphy Rehab & Nursing provides radios to residents if requested, but because they were so involved in activities, they were rarely in their rooms to listen.
Taken by their personalities and energy, Norton wanted them each to have their own radio, which is what prompted the radio station to donate a fancy radio system, including a CD player with Bluetooth, to each member of the unofficial club.
“Now when they do crafts,” Fulford said, “they listen to the radio.”
