Murphy – A storm with tremendous winds whipped through Cherokee County on Friday night, taking down trees and destroying the Big Gospel Tent set up in the shadow of Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel off U.S. 19/74.
According to online reports, there were folks under the tent setting up for that night’s service, but no one was injured. Instead of giving up and going home to regroup, Voice of Hope Ministries has agreed to extend the Western North Carolina Awakening Crusade for another week.
In the spirit of Christian unity that is at the heart of the revival, First Baptist Church of Murphy has agreed to be the new host of the crusade. Through Friday, prayer will be held at 6:30 p.m. nightly, with the services at 7 p.m.
“Let’s show the world what happens when the church across denominational lines comes together and seeks spiritual awakening for our community and our nation,” organizers said.
