Blairsville, Ga. – Folks planning home projects as well as those just wanting to see what’s new were treated to a two-day free Home & Garden Show on April 29-30.
Both Saturday and Sunday saw large steady crowds of locals and visitors alike coming out to the Union County Sports Center as the show had plenty to offer. Vendor displays included furniture, bath services and products, gutters, facial products, coating and sealers for home and deck, as well as essential oils, brooms, sticky rollers and more.
There were lots of people signing up for the free give-a-ways throughout the day. In addition, vendors offered freebies at their booths such as tape measures, rain gauges, pens, water bottles, tile squeegees, mints and lip balms.
Jenny Pitts was one of the many vendors that came out to the show. Pitts started making hope-filled candles as a way to heal after the passing of her infant son, Kaleb, from Trisomy 13. She recalls being helped through her grieving by the nonprofit organization named Abel Speaks.
As a result, she in turn donates a portion of her candle sales back to the organization so they can continue helping others. She said of being out at the Home & Garden Show, “It’s been wonderful, and everyone is super friendly and welcoming. We’ve enjoyed being here a lot.”
Liz Green of Blairsville appeared happy to be browsing the different vendor booths.
“They have more things to see this year,” she said, “so I’m just making the rounds.”
Marcus Rawson of Blue Ridge made his first trip to the Home & Garden Show.
“It’s worth the effort to come out,” he said. “It’s always great when people provide things to do locally that are free and that are exciting and show you new things. It’s also nice to have the opportunity to interact with people in the community.”
Vendors we’re happy to be out as well. Ana Mabry with Natural Balance magnetic jewelry said, “We’ve been coming for four years. We’re excited to be here and the weather’s been nice. The people are very nice as well and we’ve had a good turnout.”
“I enjoy meeting new people and possibly new customers. I also enjoy educating them on what we can do for the community.” Added Tammy Craig, who has been with North Georgia Stone & Outdoor Living for about 12 years.
The event was a success and everyone appeared happy to have been a part of it. The Cherokee Scout was a co-sponsor of the annual event.
“We filled the place up, and our vendors are very happy,” said organizer Bill Anderson of Andrews.
If you’ve missed this one, fret not, as another Home & Garden Show is planned for Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23, at the Towns County Recreation & Conference Center in Hiawassee.
