Murphy – Absentee and early voting in North Carolina neared 3 million Monday, with Cherokee County totaling 7,933 with just over a week to go before Election Day.
Voter turnout in Cherokee County was 38.22% of eligible voters based on May 2024 voter registration, when there were 19,626 registered voters in Cherokee County.

Early voting ends at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Cherokee County Board of Elections, 40 Peachtree St., is the only location for early voting.
This will be the last batch of early voting numbers reported by the Cherokee Scout in advance of the Nov. 5 election. The Scout will publish general election results as they become available the night of the election Tuesday and early the next morning. Visit cherokeescout.com for updates.
Cherokee County vote totals as of Monday included 7,503 early votes, 407 mailed-in civilian votes, two mailed-in military votes and 21 mailed-in overseas votes. Data released by the N.C. State Board of Elections does not break down county data any further.
Statewide, 2.8 million votes have been case in early and absentee voting, 36.11% of registered voters in the state.
Early voting is outpacing 2020’s numbers by 415,902 votes. 2020 early voting set a record in North Carolina, with COVID-19 resulting in nearly double the number of early votes in the 2016 election.
Republicans outnumbered Democrats and unaffiliated in early voting as of Monday, with 961,871 votes compared to 938,167 ballots cast by members of the Democratic Party and 904,669 unaffiliated votes cast.
Unaffiliated voters lead voter registration in the state, with 37.84% of registered voters compared to 31.28% Democratic and 29.86% Republicans. Women are turning out in greater numbers than man at 51.94% of votes cast compared to 41.91% by males and 6.15% undesignated.
