Streets filled as monthly event back downtown
Murphy Last month’s Art Walk was rained out, and the streets were bare. However, this month’s Art Walk was held Friday under sunny skies and warm temperatures, and the streets were filled.
Vendors, music, food and drink were all on hand, while the downtown shops and restaurants were open and busy. Todd Duvall was keeping an eye on the bright and colorful artwork of his wife, Donna, who had stepped away for a few moments.
“It’s a gorgeous time,” she said upon returning. “This is really unique to come out here and be part of an Art Walk on a beautiful day in the mountains.”
Susan Corley, an artist whose works are on display at the Murphy Art Center, was selling assorted samples of her work, including coasters, hand-painted bottles with LED lights, watercolors, crochet and cards.
“It’s beautiful and great seeing all the folks downtown,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to meet people, have a good time and sit out and bake in the sun.”
Miss Mollie was out with her music ministry, singing and worshipping with songs as folks stopped by to listen.
Marketplace Antiques was busy as folks stopped by for live music, snacks, a bit of wine and to browse the many unique items in the shop.
Other items along the streets that were on display included pottery works by Michael Lalone, painted baby clothing from Whimsical Art and framed photos by Kelly Kennon, who won a gold metal for her photography in the SilverArts portion of the Cherokee & Clay County Senior Games.
Several authors were out signing copies of their books, and music could be heard from different locations downtown.
The First Friday Art Walk, sponsored by the Valley River Arts Guild, is held from 5-8 p.m. on the first Friday of each month from May through December.
