Candidates for municipal elections will have to put in some work over the coming months as each race is being contested by more people than available seats.
In Andrews, the mayor’s seat and two aldermen seats are up for grabs. In Murphy, the mayor’s seat and all six council seats are available for the taking.
Three people announced their candidacy for mayor of Andrews during the two-week filing period, which concluded Friday: J.L. Franklin, James Reid and Randy Hogsed. Meanwhile, seven people filed candidacy for a seat on the Andrews Board of Aldermen: Steve Jordan, Glenn Parker, Jason Raxter, Alton Raymond III, Brandi Smith, Bryan Tomlin and Rebecca Woodard.
On the west side of the county, two people filed candidacy for mayor of Murphy: Jeff Crane and Tim Radford. Meanwhile, seven people announced their candidacy for a seat on Murphy Town Council: Frank Dickey, Keisha Dockery, Barbara Hughes, Barry McClure, Chandler Pash, Anne Rose and Gail Walker Stansell.
Since the candidacy list for Murphy races did not reach the number required to trigger a primary election, citizens from both towns will vote Tuesday, Nov. 2.
