Murphy – One Dozen Who Care will host its annual Multicultural Women’s Development Conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Murphy First United Methodist Church downtown.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Claiming Our Power: Owning Our Worth, Shaping Our Future.” The keynote speaker will be JeWana Grier-McEachin, executive director of the Asheville Buncombe Institute for Parity Achievement, whose address will focus on “Using Your Power for Good.”
Other highlights on the agenda will include breakout sessions focusing on several different aspects of daily modern life, including “Saving Our Mental Health” with local poet Mary Ricketson and “Downsizing and Accommodating Your Home for Aging in Place” with Erin Adams.
For more than 25 years, One Dozen Who Care has sought to bring together women across differing racial, socio-economic and age lines in western North Carolina for a gathering dedicated to empowering women and creating community in the area.
Doors open for registration at 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided by The Ark food truck. Child care will be available on site for attendees.
